Douglas Stewart Reynal was born in Bay City, Texas on May 7, 1957, only child of Edward Werner Reynal, Jr. (19241022) and Billie Jean Harris. He attended the Bay City schools and graduated from Bay City High School in 1975. He attended Texas A & M University, and was a member of the Corps of Cadets, and graduated with a degree in Mechanized Agriculture in 1980. He farmed for three years following graduating, and is presently employed with Lyondell Petrochemical Co., Matagorda County, Texas.
